When Will We Be Back?

Posted on March 20, 2020

Obviously all races and many sporting events cancelled for March, and April, and we now look to May as a possible starting point for some races. Myself, I can't see much happening in April, as the coronavirus continues to grow and until we see a massive decline in cases, nobody is going anywhere.

I am a super positive guy, and don't want to be negative about any of this, but you have to be realistic. At the moment the motocross calendar for May looks like this below, but expect most of these events to be postponed. Maybe Australia has a shot, as they have very few cases and are really onto it at the moment. So that country might be clear of the virus by then, although with 120 new cases, and a total of nearly 900, they are also a long way from being free of the virus.

Germany, has risen to 16,000 cases and 44 deaths, and it would take a miracle to see them racing or doing any sports in May, which is just six weeks away. England, who are just now making people stay home are in the same boat, but fortunately, just like Australia, they are an Island and stopping the virus should be easier, but with around 3200 cases and 144 deaths, they are a long way from being normal again.

I think both the AMA and FIM events are more realistic, with the Grand Prix set to return in Russia on June 7, and then Latvia on June 14. Both these countries have very low numbers of cases and fortunately just one death, which happened in Russia. The question will be, how quickly will those countries allow entries from countries such as Italy, Belgium, France and Germany, where the virus will probably still be rising?

I do agree with FMF, ride this out, get on your motorcycle and enjoy the nature. Don't go in big groups, and don't get injured, so sensible riding, but enjoy yourself. Death isn't something new to the planet, and while the 10,000 so far from coronavirus is a drop in the ocean to other deaths. That doesn't mean this virus can be taken lightly, but death around the World didn't stop us enjoying life, and these virus deaths shouldn't change that.

Keep the sick and dying in your thoughts, and remain positive in a time when that is all we have. I am off to for a ride along the river. Have a great weekend everyone.
