This year's Beach Motocross event in Weymouth has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It was going to be held on Sunday 18th October 2020 but organisers have decided to move the event to next year.

The annual event is one of the most attended free events in Weymouth and organisers say this will leave a huge hole in the town's events calendar for this year.

Ryan Hope, is the President of Weymouth & Portland Lions Club. He said:

"I am very disappointed that we are not able to go ahead with this year's Beach Motocross but can understand the reasons why. Sadly, we will also miss out on the £3000 for local organisations that this event usually raises".

Alf Stearn, from the Purbeck Motorcross Club, said:

"This decision is a great blow to all of the riders who really look forward to this event each year, it would of come at the end of what would have been a very busy Motocross season and it's great fun for everyone. We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2021".

Weymouth & Portland Lions Club and the Purbeck Motocross Club will continue working together, as they have done for the past 35 years, ready for the event next year.

Weymouth Beach Motocross will now return on 10th October 2021.
