Return to MXGP series expected for 2026 with Honda HRC

Double MX2 world champion Tom Vialle revealed that ‘everything is already decided’ in regards to his future, the current US-based Red Bull KTM rider continuing to be heavily linked to a long-term MXGP deal with Honda HRC from 2026.

Following months of speculation as to where the reigning 250SX East title-holder will end up for next year, the 24-year-old made it clear during Saturday’s Unadilla National press conference that a decision has been finalized.

It was initially expected that the Frenchman would transition to the 450 class with Red Bull KTM in a single-year extension for next year’s SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) – comprising both Monster Energy Supercross and Pro Motocross – before the HRC option became apparent.

“Everything is already decided,” Vialle admitted. “But, obviously, I can’t talk about it right now.”

Vialle has experienced a largely successful stint in America since arriving in 2023, having earned back-to-back eastern regional 250SX titles, as well as finishing second in 250MX behind Haiden Deegan (Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing) last year, and then again in the SMX Finals.

Reflecting on his three full seasons in America, Vialle indicated that a Supercross title was always the goal, although championship success outdoors – despite his grand prix background – had eluded him.

“We’re getting right towards the end of my 250 career, with only a couple more races left,” he added. “My goal coming to the US was to win a Supercross title once, and we were able to do it twice, so that wasn’t expected.

“The only one that I am pretty frustrated about is the outdoor [title] – I couldn’t really put everything together these last two seasons, keeping on making some small mistakes. I was trying to push it a bit too hard, trying to follow Haiden – a couple of times I was pushing too hard and then crashed, didn’t finish some motos.

“I finished second last year in the championship, but this year again I tried a little too hard at the beginning and crashed. We’re starting to get back to speed now, and hopefully we can fight for the SMX title.”

If it eventuates, Vialle’s shock defection from KTM to Honda would mark his premier class debut in the world championship, potentially alongside Jeffrey Herlings as part of a wild MXGP silly season. Five-time world champion Tim Gajser is rumored to be departing HRC for Yamaha in 2026.
