Jett Lawrence – "I hate losing"

He was serious all day, the normally carefree Jett Lawrence had a job to do, but once he delivered another win under pressure, Lawrence explained just how much he hated losing after a classy ride in Nashville to run down Eli Tomac for the win.

Don’t mis-read Jett Lawrence when he’s joking around. Underneath that playful nature is a Carmichael level killer. He fired in Nashville.

Jett said: ““I hate losing, so that bit of a losing streak really sucked. But [I’m] really pumped to come out and get it done here, especially with the Slash and Gibson [designed] gear. Those people are awesome to us, so I have to say a big shout out to them; I reckon it helped a lot.

“I felt good out there [and] hit my marks. A big [bummer] for Kenny, I didn’t get to fully see [Roczen’s crash] because of all the smoke, but it looked like it was pretty bad, so I hope he’s okay or has a speedy recovery from that. But… this [win] is leading in the good direction, so hopefully we keep it going.”

Jett added in the press conference: “The bike’s been handling great and I’ve been feeling good the last few weekends, it’s just I haven’t been putting it together and haven’t been putting myself in good positions.”

Even rival Webb admitted Jett was just too good: “I think for me, honestly, I saw today from practice, I think Jett had a point to prove and he did that. You know, to me he was to me the best all day.”

Point proven.

See the heads up riding from Jett to run down Tomac for the second week in a row:

2024 WORLD TWO-STROKE CHAMPIONSHIP

NO MYSTERY! YOU DON’T NEED SHERLOCK HOLMES TO SOLVE THE RIDDLE

You don’t need Sherlock Holmes to tell you that a two-stroke is a vastly superior motocross racing engine to a four-stroke. On a per-cubic-centimeter basis, it makes 40 percent more power and does it with less weight, fewer moving parts, less cost and without the need for much in the way of technical support. The two-stroke is the ultimate powerplant for a motocross machine.

Carson Brown (1) came to Glen Helen as the odds-on favorite to win the Open Pro class.  And, after his first moto rout of the competition, his victory seemed assured, but it wasn’t to be. Carson gave it everything he had to pass Justin Hoeft in the second moto, but came up short.

In fact, the two-stroke was so superior to the four-stroke when it made its first mark on racing back in 1966 that it wiped the four-stroke off of the racetracks of the world. And, the two-stroke would most likely wipe the four-strokes off the face of the earth today—if the bureaucrats, fat cats, money changers, pencil pushers, professional alibiers and downright liars weren’t in charge of the direction of the sport of motocross.

The ultimate expression of two-strokedom celebrated its 15th year of existance at Glen Helne raceway this past Saturday. What follows are the pro results and some of Debbi Tamietti’s 1000 photos and able help from Trevor Nelson and Kyoshi Becker.

Sexton OK

Red Bull KTM Chase Sexton had a violent crash early in the Main Event in Nashville. He came up short on the double on the start straight and went over the bars into the corner. He was down for a bit before exiting the track on his own accord.

And positive news for @chasesexton, he’s now been cleared of injury after exiting the 450SX Main Event in Nashville.

KTM gave a quick update on Instagram about Sexton’s condition and it looks like he checked out without any injuries and should be available to race next weekend in Philadelphia.

KTM also said that a rock cracked the throttle body, causing the throttle to stick, which made him crash. This news was first reported by Jason Weigandt, the singer of the Creed two stroke deal.

Shock body malfunction caused Roczen to hit the deck

Further evaluation needed for Roczen after Nashville crash

After a violent crash ended Ken Roczen’s main event in Nashville, the Progressive Ecstar Suzuki team stated he suffered bruising in his knee, ankle and toes. Roczen has now further stated that he will get MRIs done on Monday and is unsure of his current timetable to return to racing.

The crash happened on the eighth lap of the main event when Roczen was right behind race leader Eli Tomac. When landing a big triple before the whoops, Roczen’s bike began smoking. Roczen was able to make it all the way through the whoops before ejecting over the end of the whoops to the flat ground.

“I thought bull riding would be more fun,” said Roczen. “Getting some MRIs on Monday. Knee, ankle and toes got all of it. What a bummer. It was shaping up to be a good battle. But once again you can’t take an ol’ German oak out just like that. We’ll be back. I just don’t know when yet.”

The root cause for the crash and why the bike was smoking was due to a shock malfunction. The team stated it was a component failure, and Roczen further clarified what happened.

“We are doing some investigation as my shock body only had about three hours on it and we have never seen it malfunction like that,” said Roczen. “It wasn’t a seal or anything. The bottom cap/housing or whatever you want to call it completely exploded.”

Further updates will be made available after Roczen has received more evaluation tomorrow. Roczen is currently sixth in 450SX standings with three races left to go, but it seems likely he might not be ready for round 15 in Philadelphia next week.

"The sport is brutal and often unnoticed just how gnarly it is. At times it will chew you up, and spit you out, with zero remorse. I hate it for our incredible athletes when they are on the wrong side of that equation."
