Vets MXDN

Northern Ireland team confirmed for Vets MXDN

Northern Ireland team confirmed for Vets MXDNi

The victorious Northern Ireland team from the 2021 VMXDN event have signed up to defend their number one position at the VMXDN Foxhill to be held at the iconic Wiltshire circuit over the August Bank Holiday on the 26th, 27th and 28th 2022.

The team is entered by MRA Northern Ireland, the NI federation and is spearheaded by Gordon Crockard who needs no introduction but in case you don’t know he is 3 time British champion and a Grand Prix winner. His day job is working for the mighty HRC squad, and he will be riding his own CR 250 race bike from 2001 which is prepped and ran by his regular right hand man and former Grand Prix mechanic Nick Moores. Gordy is the +40 member of the team and he will be racing with the prestigious number 1 plate!

Second on the squad is Graeme Irwin who was the 2017 MX1 British champion and Grand Prix regular, he will be racing a 2001 Honda CR500 prepped for the event by Mark McGill with support from his personal sponsors Traction Finance and Scarlett DIY

Neville Bradshaw is the third member on the squad returning to ride for his country, the journeyman racer is a regular on the 2 stroke scene and is racing most weekends at the very highest level, he always puts in a stellar performance on the evo bikes and is certainly a threat wherever he races. Nev holds dual citizenship with South Africa and Northern Ireland which qualifies him to race both. Nev’s personal sponsor is RJP who are supplying and running him on a 1995 Honda CR500 with support from CI sport.

The team will run numbers 1, 2 and 3.

The VMXDN Foxhill is rapidly forming to be the biggest event on the British MX calendar bar none, with both racing and live music forming the 4 day event, with many of the sports biggest stars from past and present committed to attend. There will also be multiple industry leading brands using the event platform to launch new 2023 products!!

The support for the inaugural event from both the MX industry and the public interest has been staggering. We are expecting the atmosphere to equal its heyday as the premier event on the World Championship calendar from the 90’s.

The pre sales for both tickets and camping has had an un-precedented response and the camping area is already filing up so we would recommend early booking is essential for camping to ensure you can get in. Spectator weekend and day passes are available to pre book but they will also be available on the day.

Also there are only a few trade stands available at the time of going to press.

For Camping, trade stands and spectator tickets go to the Eventbrite website.

Breakout MXGP dominance for Vlaanderen in Sardegna

Breakout MXGP dominance for Vlaanderen in Sardegna

A breakout MXGP double victory in Sardegna saw Calvin Vlaanderen convincingly take the overall, as Tom Vialle took the top step in MX2 as the title fight continues to intensify.

Vlaanderen (Gebben Van Veerooy Yamaha Racing) went 1-1 ahead of returning Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado, who landed P2 for the day courtesy of a pair of thirds.

Monster Energy Yamaha’s Glenn Coldenhoff crossed the line second in race two, which was enough to elevate the number 259 to third overall after he finished the first moto in P8.

Completing the top five behind Coldenhoff, were teammates Maxime Renaux and Jeremy Seewer, the duo each notching a fourth and a sixth at Riola Sarda, Renaux’s strongest result coming in the second moto to give him the upper hand.

Red plate-holder Tim Gajser (Team HRC) finished second in race one, but a challenging race two saw him cross the line 12th after remounting from a fall, leaving him seventh overall at round eight.

Gajser maintains a commanding advantage in the 2022 MXGP World Championship standings, leading Renaux by 79, as Seewer sits third a further 24 points adrift.

Vialle (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and red plate-holder Jago Geerts (Monster Energy Yamaha MX2) split victories in MX2, Vialle earning the overall on countback.

Geerts was victorious in moto one by 8.8s over Vialle, but the Spaniard turned the tables in race two to take a narrow 0.3s victory ahead of the Yamaha rider in what was a thrilling end to the moto.

Completing the top three overall was Thibault Benistant (Monster Energy Yamaha MX2), courtesy of a 3-3 scorecard, as Kevin Hogmo (Kawasaki) and Andrea Adamo (GasGas) completed the top five for the round.

Geerts maintains a six-point lead over Vialle in the 2022 MX2 World Championship standings, with Simon Laegenfelder (Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing) in third, 93 points from the red plate.

The third round of the MXW World Championship took place in Sardegna, as Shana van der Vlist (KTM) claimed the overall victory thanks to 1-2 results.

Moto two winner Nancy Van De Ven (Yamaha) landed second overall, a seventh in moto one ultimately costly as Daniela Guillen completed the top three.

Van De Ven continues to lead the championship after Riola Sardo, 12 points ahead of Lynn Valk (Yamaha) who finished second in the opening moto at round three before a zero points haul in the second race. Third in the standings is van der Vlist, just 16 back from the lead.

Brayton reflects on extensive professional racing career

Brayton reflects on extensive professional racing career

The Salt Lake City 2022 Monster Energy Supercross finals brought a close to the full-time racing career of Justin Brayton, the Smartop Bullfrog Spas MCR Honda rider ‘thankful’ for his time spent in professional competition.

This year marked Brayton’s 20th season as a professional, still ranking as the oldest 450SX winner in history following his victory at the Daytona Supercross in 2018. He’s also a four-time Australian SX1 champion (2016-2018).

“The number one word that keeps coming to my mind is thankful,” Brayton explained. “Honestly all of it, from the ups and the downs, the people I’ve been able to meet, the awesome bikes I have been able to ride… Results aside, it’s such an amazing sport and I’m so thankful for the way I did it, the way I came up, leaving Iowa, graduating high school – kind of did it my own way.

“I didn’t really have a specific way I was going to do it, I just knew I had a dream and the dream was to potentially race one Supercross and here we are. I’m so thankful, it’s been an amazing ride. There hasn’t been much sadness, honestly just so thankful that I was able to make it to now, retire on my own terms at 38 years old, oldest ever to win a Supercross, 190 starts, just so thankful.”

“Now, [I’m] ready to turn the page – I’ve got three kids that keep me busy. The number one thing is that I have been able to do it at a high level for a long time. Now that I have three kids and I’m older, it’s harder to prepare the way that you truly need to prepare.”

Brayton concluded his career with a solid seventh-place result in Salt Lake City last Saturday night, capping off a string of top 10 finishes across the final five rounds. He earned ninth in the 450SX standings despite missing multiple rounds.
