Hangtown 2014
Hangtown gears up for 46th motocross classic
Elk Grove Citizen
No race is like it in California.
The 46th annual GoPro Hangtown Motocross Classic is back at Prairie City State Recreation Park.
The three-day event begins Thursday, May 29, with the pros racing Saturday, May 31.
It‘s not just any motocross race, but the oldest and one of the most coveted trophies on the 12-race Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship Series. As host to professional motocross racing since 1968, the Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club (DDNMC) has developed the Hangtown Classic as the crown jewel of the series, hosting the largest crowds of the season, year in and year out.
Practice and time qualifications will be Saturday morning, with the opening ceremony at 12:25 p.m. and two motos each for the 250 and 450 classes.
To celebrate the 46th running of Hangtown, the pro pits will be open in the morning for no additional charge.
Adding to the excitement this year is a re-designed track layout.
With new expanded seating and hospitality section for spectators, the modified course will not only provide new vantage points to watch all of the action, but will bring the race closer to the huge spectator base that popularized Hangtown.
To get tickets and full race information about the Hangtown Motocross Classic, go to www.hangtownmx.com and click on tickets.
For Thursday and Friday, tickets are $20 for ages 12-and-older and $15 for children 6-11.
Tickets are $40 for 12-and-older and $20 for ages 6-11 on Saturday.
Children 5-and-under are free.
MX Rewind....at the Dilla!
Racing is Set for MX Rewind
2014-03-25 20:05
MX Rewind, one of the premier vintage and off road racing events in America, returns to Unadilla MX on May 30-June 1. It’s a busy weekend filled with motocross history for racers and fans alike --- and for which features three full days of vintage racing, including AHRMA vintage cross-country and the addition of AHRMA Observed Trials. The weekend kicks off with Friday's cross-country and trials events, which are both a great start to the weekend and enjoy Unadilla’s diverse hills and its natural elevation changes.
Motocross racing begins on Saturday and will be on the famous Unadilla pro racetrack, which is only slightly reworked to accommodate vintage bikes. Over thirty AHRMA vintage motocross classes will race both motos on Saturday. In addition to AHRMA vintage classes on Saturday, Unadilla will run the first moto for nine promoter support classes to allow those with bikes from 1998 or earlier the chance to add to the excitement. For children of racers who don't have a vintage bike but don't want to give up a weekend of racing, included in the support classes are three modern classes just for them. Also on Saturday will be the reworked Team Cup Challenge, which is based on a four racer team led by a former MX legend as team captain. On Sunday, over thirty AHRMA post-vintage classes begin their assault on Unadilla, as will the second moto for the promoter added classes, making it another equally busy day of racing.
Pre-entry and post-entry is available for all racing classes at MX Rewind. All AHRMA classes do require that the racer be either a full or weekend member of AHRMA. However, to pre-enter an AHRMA class, you do need to be a full member. Anyone who wants a weekend AHRMA membership can join at the track but will need to post enter the AHRMA classes. Unadilla promoter support classes do not require any memberships. They can be pre-entered or post-entered. We have placed a link to the MX Rewind racing information on the event website --- www.mxrewind.com . By clicking on this link, you will find more information about AHRMA classes, Unadilla promoter support classes, and the links to the pre-entry sites for all AHRMA and promoter support classes.
AHRMA does have their rulebook on-line at www.ahrma.org to help you find where your bike fits and what changes can or cannot be made. If you have any questions, we encourage you to use the AHRMA "contact us" button and email their National Off-Road Director.
The racing action is all set but there is more to MX Rewind than just racing. Fifteen former legends of motocross will be there, bench racing, swap meet, bike shows, meet and greets, autograph sessions, nightly entertainment, gab sessions, and just good times with old friends makes it a fun filled weekend. Whether you are a racer or a fan, MX Rewind will keep you talking.

Benefit Ride Day for Brooke!
The response to this Benefit Ride for Brooke has been exceptional. The motorcycle industry has once again shown why this is such a great community. The raffle will be spectacular. Come out Sunday have a good time and support a good cause.
We all know there is danger in riding motorcycles and we accept that fact. However, how do you deal with the totaly unexpected. Life is not fair and sometimes bad things happen to really good people. Josh Beaubier and his family are good people faced with a big challenge. Those of you in N. CA may know Josh from all his time in the motorcycle industry. One of the things I've learned about the motorcycle culture is we always help when we can. I encourage you to make it out to Prairie City OHV for some riding on a perfectly prepped mx track next weekend, March 16th. There will be a huge raffle and all proceeds go to help the Beaubier family.

New Date for BCOTMX
The BC International Old Timer race has been moved to Aug. Here is the announcement from club president Don Tocher.
Our International race date has changed to August 2nd and 3rd due to circumstances beyond our control. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused riders and their families planning on attending. A great upside is that the Alberta race is the following weekend allowing riders to travel through to their race. This is a long weekend in BC, also giving that extra travel day. This also allows for better track conditions, due to cooler night time temperatures, which results in the track holding water better. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Muddy Creek's Tennessee National to Air Live on NBC June 28
![]() |
November 27, 2013
BLOUNTVILLE -- After a tremendously successful Built Ford Tough Tennessee Motocross National at Muddy Creek Raceway this past June, the prestigious Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship recently announced it would be returning to the legendary track.
The 2nd Annual Tennessee National is set to take place June 28, 2014 at Muddy Creek and will be Round 5 of the 12-round Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, which is sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. The event will be broadcast live on NBC.
The inaugural Tennessee National marked the first time in 15 years that the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship had held an event in the Southeast region of the United States and Muddy Creek, riddled with deep ruts and right turns, didn’t disappoint. Nearly 25,000 fans jammed into the facility to watch some of the world’s finest professional riders attack one of the country’s most challenging tracks.
Sam Gammon, the four-time national promoter of the year who owns Victory Sports, which runs Muddy Creek, feels the popularity of this year’s race laid the groundwork for the 2014 event.
“Honestly, for a first-year event, you couldn’t have asked for much more,” he said. “We knew it was going to be pretty big but I have to admit, we really had no idea just how successful it would be. We weren’t sure what kind of crowd we would have but that weekend the fans started coming and they kept coming.
“It was extremely gratifying for us to have that kind of turnout and I feel like they got their money’s worth because there was some really great racing from some of the sport’s biggest names. With any event, you expect it to grow every year and we’re certainly planning on that happening.”
With NBC broadcasting the event live, Gammon knows the spotlight will shine brightly on Muddy Creek, which was profiled in Sports Illustrated a few years ago.
“We’re really excited about that,” he said. “And it’s NBC, not just NBC Sports. Obviously, we’ve had events broadcast here before – this year’s Tennessee National aired on SPEED but when you’re able to make it on one of the big national networks, that’s pretty impressive.
“I would like to think that this year’s event and its success – and the fact that the riders really enjoyed racing here -- had a lot to do with that. And we’re going to be ready for it. We’re making plans to add more concessions, more parking, just really doing whatever we can to give the fans another big show and the riders a great track to race on.”
Gammon’s main goal, as always, is to take care of the fans and the competitors, not just at the Tennessee National but all events held at Muddy Creek. He says to make that happen you have to have a lot of support from the community.
“I don’t have a doubt in my mind that no other Pro MX National got the kind of help and local support that we had at Muddy Creek,” he said. “From the media to the chambers to a number of other companies in the area and a lot of individuals, it was all about making that race a success. It takes a community to make this kind of event happen and I can’t say enough about all the backing we have.”
Muddy Creek is again the lone stop in the South on the 2014 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship schedule. The season opens in California in May and includes events in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington, New York and Indiana before ending the season in Utah in August.
Tickets for the Tennessee National are on sale now and can be purchased online at http://www.victory-sports.com/site/upcoming-races/11/tennessee-national/.
Ride To Defeat ALS...this is a great cause!

Dear Friends,
I'm participating in the 9th Annual Ride to Defeat ALS and Walk to raise much needed funds for The ALS Association. They provide patient services resources and fund global, cutting edge research. I am riding with Team Denison. Kevin is a fellow coach and ride leader with Cycling Development who donates his time coaching High School Mountain bike riders in the Nor Cal league. Kevin was diagnosed with ALS in May of this year and we plan to ride 100 miles with him. This ride is an exciting opportunity for us to work together to support those affected by Lou Gehrig's Disease and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure.
I'm asking for your help. Please make a donation, join my team, or sign up to be a volunteer today.
