Great interview. I first met Ricky in 1982 when we both roe for Yamaha. He was a great kid then and has been such a character his whole life. He points out how the personalities have changed over years in the MX world. He also says he just enjoys riding now whether on an adventure bike doing a wheelie or a slide, it is fun and he loves riding. This is a guy that likes to ride, I get it.
Here is a short story, just a few years back we were both riding the Baja 1000 on different teams a few minutes apart. We were both riding the same section. Our team started a few minutes behind due to age bracket. Ricky knew this and was determined not to let me catch him. He knows my wife, Cheryl and would ask her at every gas stop, "how far back is Eric?" This went on for about 150 miles until he handed the bike off and was happy the time between us never changed so I never gained any time on him. It was a lot of fun chasing him and he made it fun and a challenge. He was waiting for me at his last stop when he handed the bike off to his next rider. He slapped me on the back and encouraged me saying how much fun he had racing me. I asked him if he wanted to ride in my place for the next couple of sections since I was not yet done! He just laughed and said No Way! The next 50 miles was all whoops! #33
