RUMOR: The Coenen’s bound for Southwick?!

Fresh off a strong weekend at Matterley Basin, where the twelfth round of the MXGP World Championship took place, it looks like the Coenen twins may not be taking much of a break—despite the rare two-week pause in the MXGP calendar.

Lucas Coenen continued his impressive rookie campaign in the MXGP class, finishing second overall and keeping his name firmly in the title conversation. Over in MX2, his brother Sacha also delivered a standout performance, landing on the podium with a third overall. With momentum on their side, the Belgian brothers might be preparing to take on a new challenge—across the Atlantic.

We understand that both Lucas and Sacha Coenen could be set to line up at Southwick this weekend for the fifth round of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship. While nothing is yet confirmed, plans are reportedly in motion for the pair to fly to the United States on Thursday, pending final logistical arrangements.

Both twins did hint something could be in the works as both asked, ‘what’s next?’ on their social media accounts.

The iconic Southwick circuit, known for its sandy and physical demands, could play perfectly into the Coenen’s strengths, given their experience and success on similar European tracks. Their potential participation would also bolster an already strong international presence in the AMA series and give American fans a glimpse of two of Europe’s brightest young talents.

Long-term, both brothers have expressed an interest in racing full-time in America, so a wildcard appearance at Southwick could serve as a perfect introduction to the U.S. scene—and a chance to make a strong impression.

While we await official confirmation, all signs point to an exciting development ahead of weekend. Stay tuned for the latest as the story is expected to unfold.
