Cairoli Out for Season

Red Bull KTM Factory rider Antonio Cairoli has decided on further scans after the swelling had subsided on his right shoulder that his season is over.

He had initially hoped to continue racing in 2019 but damage to the Subscapularis and Supraspinatus muscles meant he was advised to have surgery right away. The procedure was performed by Tom Claes (son of renowned surgeon Toon) and the former nine-times world champion is expected to leave hospital today (Sunday) to begin a recovery period that can take between three-four months.

Tony Cairoli: “It is sad to finish the championship this way and it hasn’t happened too many times in my career. When I tried to ride last week I knew I had some problems but I wanted to stay positive about the recovery. I had more scans in Belgium and the injury was much worse that we thought so they told me to have surgery right away and it was the best solution to get healthy again in the fastest way. Thanks to the team and to the fans for the support. I hope to visit a few races before the end of the season and will now concentrate on getting better.”

What this means is Tim Gajser now has a 161 points lead over Jeremy Seewer and with seven GPs to go has a three GP advantage over the Yamaha rider.

Gajser Closing On Title

Gajser gets 1-2 and wins

Posted on July 07, 2019

HRC rider Tim Gajser has won the GP of Indonesia with 1-2 results and extended his points lead over Antonio Cairoli and Jeremy Seewer.  Second overall was Romain Febvre and third Jeremy Seewer.

“I had an amazing jump out of the gate and was leading then I made a mistake and Roman and Jeremy passed me, but I got Jeremy back, but didn’t even push for Roman, he was too far ahead.

With Antonio Cairoli ruled out for the season, it is now Jeremy Seewer who is the closest competition to Gajser and the points gap is Tim Gajser 488 points and Jeremy Seewer 327pts. A massive 161 points.

Gajser once again controlled the start of the second MXGP moto, with Anstie down early and back to 10th place, his team-mate Monticelle also down and in 19th. Just to add more drama Tonus in trouble and unable to start his bike.

Febvre moved into second place after passing Seewer and Gajser extended his lead to more than two seconds. Top ten on lap two was Gajser, Febvre, Seewer, Paulin, Coldenhoff, Jasikonis, Bogers, Jonass, Anstie and Leok.

Gajser back in third place as Febvre and Seewer went past, but Gajser fought back to pass Seewer, although Febvre was long gone in first. Jasikonis went down, and after nine laps it was Febvre, Gajser, Seewer, Coldenhoff, Paulin, Jonass, Anstie, Bogers, Jasikonis and Van Horebeek.

Seewer was fighting hard to keep Coldenhoff off him as those two battled for third place. Coldenhoff into third and Anstie all over Paulin for fifth position. After 17 laps it was Febvre, Gajser, Coldenhoff, Seewer, Paulin, Anstie, Jonass, Bogers, Leok and Jasikonis. Febvre wins it from Gajser and Coldenhoff, but the HRC rider wins the GP.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Dean Wilson will boost an extensive international line-up for the 2019 Monster Energy AUS-X Open Melbourne, set to be staged at Marvel Stadium on 30 November.

A crowd favourite, Wilson has starred in the prestigious event on two occasions, securing victory on debut during the opening night of racing in 2017.

“I’m super-excited to be returning to the AUS-X Open again this year,” Wilson commented. “My 2019 season was up and down, but I’ll be pushing hard for it in Melbourne – I’ll be definitely out there to get my redemption and come out on top.

“Obviously I’ve had some amazing results the past two years at AUS-X, winning the Saturday night in 2017 and coming in second last year, I feel like I have what it takes third time around down under.

“Australia is such a sick place to visit and this time to be in Melbourne for the first time, I think it will make for the best year of AUS-X yet, the line-up is stacked and I can’t wait to take on the world’s best.”

The AUS-X Open, which will mark the final round of the Australian Supercross Championship and S-X Open International FIM Oceania Supercross Championship, will visit the 53,000-plus capacity Marvel Stadium venue for the very first time.

The line-up of AMA regulars currently includes Chad Reed (JGRMX Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing), Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing), Joey Savatgy (Monster Energy Kawasaki) and Justin Brayton (Penrite Honda Racing), while the greatest of all Time Ricky Carmichael (Suzuki) will also make an appearance.

Factory Yamaha splits with Ferris midway through Pro Motocross

Triple Australian champion returning home after mutually parting ways.

Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing has released a statement revealing it’s mutually agreed to part ways with triple Australian champion Dean Ferris midway through the 2019 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.

Ferris, who was drafted in as a replacement for injured team regular Aaron Plessinger, was understood to be signed for the entire 12-round champion despite the premier class rookie’s looming return, which was eventually made at Southwick.

The statement read that Ferris will return home to Australia, although the popular New South Welshman is yet to address his new-found situation.

“It was a pleasure to have Dean filling in for the opening rounds of the 2019 Lucas Oil Motocross Championship while Aaron was recovering from injury,” said team manager Jim Perry.

“Now that Aaron has returned to his #7 YZ450F, the Aussie national champ has decided to return home down under. The Monster Energy Factory Yamaha team appreciated his strong work ethic and commitment while in the states, we wish him all the best in the future.”

Ferris is currently ranked eighth in the championship standings, directly behind lead Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing rider Justin Barcia. The Australian scored numerous top finishes in the opening six rounds, with the seventh stop scheduled for this weekend at RedBud.

Red Bud...Line'm Up for Larocco's Leap!

RedBud - The Track

Tony Blazier penned a very cool history piece about the how LaRocco’s came about on his IG page, we’ve also added a huge gallery of videos and pics of the most famous jump in motocross.

Tony Blazier – In the fall of 1991, Team Kawasaki’s Mike LaRocco went looking for someone to build him a practice track at his home in Indiana. The man he came up with was Tim Ritchie, son of legendary Redbud founder Gene Ritchie. Together, they pieced together a practice track for Mike that included a massive 150 jump later named “Kong”. After watching Mike huck this mega leap several times, Tim became enamored with the idea of adding a similar jump to his dad’s National track. In 1992, Tim brought his own version of Kong to Redbud and enlisted Mike to help him work out the best angle and distance. At the National that summer, Mike debuted the jump by not just clearing the massive leap, but by launching it on his Factory Kawasaki KX125. In 1992, this was no small feat and the spectacular jump quickly acquired a new name, LaRocco’s Leap. Today the Leap remains the most famous jump in motocross and even though the run, shape and length has varied from year to year, its jaw-dropping appeal has remained a constant.

MXGP...Indonesia

Palembang - The Facility

While I sit here in my hotel room, the GP paddock just a two-minute walk away, a purposely built motocross in eyesight, and the air condition blowing out a nice 20 degrees, I have to admit, this is motocross at its best. A handful of hotels circle the track, a massive mall, with a good selection of places to eat, or have a beer are at hand. Yes, welcome to the Grand Prix of Indonesia.

Indonesia has again greeted us with open arms, the people of Palembang all happy, smiling faces, interested in us and looking at us like we have just landed from the moon. A track built by Greg Atkins that has attracted good comments from riders, Tim Gajser saying it will be good for racing, free flowing and good lines for passing.

As always, the GP paddock are all close together, some sitting in the team tents, some inside the hotel foyer, and some walking the track. Temperatures are not ridiculous, although when the cloud is completely gone, and the sun is at its harshest, its DAMN hot.

For the media, the four-star hotel makes for the media room, again with 100% viewing of the circuit, air conditioning, a KFC shop, and a bunch of other luxuries. In fact, if we like we could go for a swim in the swimming pool between motos. This new level motocross and I am loving it.

A night the GP paddock people can sit in the luxurious bar area and take in a Bintang beer (the local drop), which is said to just be Heineken, just in a different bottle, which really ruined my day, as I liked it until somebody told me that.

Tonight a visit to the private home of the Palembang Governor, a traditional dance, a meal and then back to the hotel for some “Heinekens”……Tomorrow of course, qualification, 30 or so National races, with adults and children involved, which is great for development of the Indonesian motocross scene. Its pretty cool watching these young locals marvelling at the GP stars and maybe one day hoping to be a MX2 or MXGP rider.

Sunday, again the main events, and then off to Bali for most of the GP paddock and a few days rest and relaxing, before we hit Semarang on the Island of Java. Motocross continues to go Worldwide, and it is a pleasure to be involved.

‘Evel Live 2’....Practice Crash Changes Format

Motocross Daredevil Axell Hodges ‘Severely Injured’ During Failed Practice Jump For ‘Evel Live 2’

There will be a format change on History‘s “Evel Live 2” special after one of the daredevils suffered a nasty accident during a practice jump.

In a press release, the History channel announced on Friday that “Evel Live 2” will have a “revamped format” after motocross star Axell Hodges crashed his bike during a practice attempt at making the longest motorcycle jump in history.

As video obtained by TMZ demonstrates, Hodges, 22, sped over a huge ramp to make the jump but missed the ramp when he came down, severely injuring both ankles when he crashed onto the concrete surface as his body skidded on the pavement.

Hodges was attempting to break the record set by Robbie Maddison in 2011 by jumping a distance of 378 feet nine inches.

The initial plan for the show was to feature live coverage of Hodges’ attempt. In addition, the show would air Hodges’ jump over more than 24 beverage trucks, beating O.G. daredevil Evel Knievel’s 1970 attempt and the subsequent record set by his son Robbie Knievel in 2008, as well as Vicki Golden’s attempts at three more record-breaking stunts.

Instead, the special will feature exclusive footage of Hodges’ crash, while Golden will proceed with her live attempt to become the first woman to break the fire board record, zooming at high speed through a series of flaming wooden boards with hopes of besting the record set in 2006.

“Daredevils throughout history have risked their lives, putting it all on the line during their death-defying stunts,” said Eli Lehrer, History’s executive vice-president and general manager, in the announcement. “It takes a certain type of hero to fall and get back up again.”

“Having a crash ahead of something you’ve been working so hard toward just plain sucks,” said Hodges, who shared an update on his condition.

“The team and I were making a lot of progress during testing and the distances we were approaching looked good for Sunday’s event. Unfortunately, I made a mistake in air and wasn’t able to adjust in time for landing. I’m shocked I’m not in worse shape and feel extremely grateful to have been able to get up from this crash.”
